Chapter 4 [Oct. 19th, 2006|09:22 pm]

These matters were revealed to the Helvetians by a warning. By their customs, they compelled Orgetorix to plead [his] case in chains; That he should be burned by fire, was considerd a proper punishement to be put on him, [be he] condemend. On the day appointed for arguing the case Orgetorix collected from everywhere all his household, close to 10,000 people, and all his clients and debtors, of which he had a great number, he lead to the same place; by them he rescued himself, so that he would not please his case. As the populace was incited by this matter, to try to carry out their law by [force of] arms, the magistrates gathered a crowd of men from the fields, Orgetorix was died. And the suspicion was not misplaced, as the Helevtians considered, but that he had decreed death for himself.
